They stared at the tiny human, the realisation of the responsibility gradually dawning on them. The human nurse smiled as she recognised the look. To the side of the bed the “starter kit” as she called it was piled up. The sponsors’ logos pulsed gently competing for attention. “My baby’s first screen” had changed colour in response to the last scan and the parents’ selected preference for “gender neutral”. The nurse gave the new member of the family to their mother – paying extra for human care had been worth it. She picked up the screen and offered the first advice.
