There was the usual queue outside the classroom. The students had been at in London long enough to know if they didn’t “tap in” as the University called it (a friendly euphemism for a soulless, bureaucratic process) they’d soon receive a form letter with words like “attendance”, “visa” and “leave” in it. So they waited in line, like at Heathrow. And they dutifully smiled so the light turned green. Thousands of miles away a recruitment agent smiled too as she walked past the billboard. A sunny campus in London, smiling students, the University’s live “proven satisfaction” score ticking up again.
