I was a good teacher. I like to think I’m a good headteacher. I manage my teachers and I’ve been doing a pretty good job managing the budgets. It’s not what I got into teaching for but since full privatisation I haven’t had a choice. Some schools brought in corporate whizz kids but our board picked me. But it’s become increasingly difficult getting deals that benefit us. The negotiations are tougher. I was trying to get a deal for this year’s ‘books”. The sponsoring brand seemed to have every argument and answer. Hardball. It was easier negotiating with humans.
