He lied of course. They expected him to. He lied about the price. He lied about the number of families who would be crossing. He lied about the boat. After the journey they’d already had, the dangers they were escaping, they just had to go with it. He gave them each a “live jacket”. They had to pay extra. The one for their daughter was too big but they made do. He assured them it would fool the beach cameras. Surprisingly it did.
