They knew it annoyed their childless friends. They tried to talk about other things at dinner parties but sometimes they couldn’t help themselves. They admitted it was “soppy”, they even said so to try and diffuse the atmosphere, lower their friends’ eyebrows. But if anyone showed any interest, they got the full tour: the pictures on the fridge, the models he’d made “when he was just two!” They’d finally announce: “and he’s done all this with a pretty basic AI. We can’t wait to see what he does with the new one we have for him.” Their friends would smile.
