People used to struggle to disappear, become invisible. It was hard. They had to hack their way off-grid, become a non-person. They had to dodge and weave identities the algorithms couldn’t find, profiles that couldn’t be pinned down. They blocked and bluffed their way out of databases and networks. Few made it. We never knew which few, of course. Urban legends. The Forgotten. But now it’s not that we’re forgotten, it’s that we were never remembered in the first place. We’re ignored by systems so intelligent we’re not worth their attention. We don’t need to try, we’re already the Disappeared.
