There was a thriving market outside the school gate. Obviously it wasn’t actually outside the gate but that was what you searched for if you wanted to find a dealer. Parents knew about it and many turned a blind eye. They wanted their children to do well, they rationalised. There was a thriving hacking market too as kids looked to add new capabilities or “powers” as they called them. Wellness patches were reprogrammed as crammers. The teachers knew it and had banned hats but couldn’t do anything about hairstyles or religious head coverings. The headteacher just watched the league tables.
