We know the value of free play. We’ve read Penny Wilson. We know how important it is for children to be in charge of their own play: deciding what to do, how to do it, where, when… But we want to be there too, playing with them. Sharing the experience. Encouraging. Not directing of course. We don’t want to be helicopter play partners. Watching the park’s feeds, it’s sometimes difficult not to join in but we’re careful how we use it. We just add the odd encouraging word, acknowledgment. We’re not the sort of parents who put it on auto!
