You could stream them of course but there was something special about visiting. In school holidays and weekends middle class parents and tourists took their kids to the Museum, believing that it was educational, an investment in their children. The Museum wasn’t as “interactive” as other real spaces. There was nothing to jack into, no buttons to press. Just exhibits. The children looked puzzled. Some asked their devices “how?” Sometimes they asked their parents “why?” Their parents struggled to answer. The exhibits just carried on working: turning out pictures, music, stories. Focused. Intent. Occasionally turning to smile at the crowds.
