The town had run a competition. Architects – human and artificial – had created designs. Some fitted in with the town’s existing style. Some were “brave”. The council met to decide on the winner. Budget was not an issue. The Company would pay whatever the building cost. The councillor in charge of planning cast the visualisations into the chamber. There were murmers from the councillors some of whom were against the data centre on principle. But when the lead sustainability councillor highlighted the infrastructure, vital for the centre but also the town, the company had promised, councillors knew they had no choice.
