It was all quiet when I arrived. The giant building hummed gently. “Like clockwork,” they’d said in the interview and I could see and hear what they meant. There was piped music, not pumped in and pumped up to get workers moving faster as in other places I’d worked. A soundscape that took the edge off the eerie. My music on shuffle. The Company had all my playlists, but a personal touch. Maybe a management perk, now I was a “Manager”. I found my office. I should call a team meeting. I pressed the button. The workers silently glided over.
